The automaker is facing an interesting challenger in the sector — Audi has announced it will unveil its all-electric concept SUV at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt next month. The vehicle’s specs show it may be a better bang for the buck when compared to Tesla’s Model S sedan.
The SUV will, on a single charge, be able to travel up to 310 miles. Tesla’s vehicle — and the upcoming Model X SUV — can’t compete with distances of 270 and 300 miles.
“The Audi e-tron quattro concept is designed from the ground up as an electric car and proves to be pioneering in its segment at the very first glance. It follows the Audi “Aerosthetics” concept, combining technical measures for reducing aerodynamic drag with creative design solutions,” Audi stated in a company release.
“Movable aerodynamic elements at the front, on the sides and at the rear improve the air flow around the car. The aerodynamically optimized underbody is completely closed.”
As PC Mag reports, Audi’s concept vehicle is powered by three electric motors — one on the front axle and two on the rear axle. The vehicle’s large lithium-ion battery is located between the axles and below the passenger compartment.
The vehicle will be revealed during the show which is scheduled for late September.
